Elbow FAQ

Question:

What is more common, pressure on the wrist nerve or the elbow nerve? I know several people who have one or the other.

Answer:

Pressure on the nerve that goes through the wrist and into the hand is called carpal tunnel syndrome. It is the most common nerve entrapment injury and appears to becoming even more common given the every day activities that people do. The second most common type of this injury is the cubital tunnel syndrome, where the ulnar nerve, which passes through your elbow, is trapped, affecting your lower arm and hands. Sarah B. Goldman, PhD, et al. Analysis of Clinical Motor Testing for Adult Patients With Diagnosed Ulnar Neuropathy at the Elbow. In Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. November 2009. Vol. 90. Pp. 1846 to 1852.
